高级英语俚语学起来

英语俚语一般情况都可以使语表达增添趣味性，并且因为俚语多半来源于实际生活趣事，所以更加的化。本土英语国家俚语运用广泛。不过咱们大天朝学生学到的英语一般是学不到如此地道的英语俚语的，希望更加本土化，更加高大上就赶紧看过来！

1、表示找错人，找到的是错误的目标对象

you are barking up the wrong tree.句中bark up the wrong tree是：找错了人、找错对

象的意思。

bark up the wrong tree是英语中的一个习语。据记载，该习语源于17世纪美国殖民地时期。当时的美洲人烟稀少，开发西部的拓荒者靠打猎为生。狩猎需要猎狗，不过，再聪明的猎狗有时也会被猎物耍弄。比如，浣熊常常昼眠夜出，到了夜里，它悄悄爬到别的树上，让猎狗误认为它还躲在空了的树洞里睡觉。结果，猎狗对着错误的目标狂吠不已to bark up the

tree。

2、平常形容某人比其他人更加优秀，有才华

（1）be more talented than others recognize（2）ahead of one’s time两句都是形容比其他人更有才华

He’s ahead of his time. No one knows how important his discoveries are.他的才华远超其他人。没人知道他的发现有多么重要。

She’s always felt that she was ahead of her time, so she isn’t disappointed.她总觉得自己比其他人更有才华，所以她并不气馁。

3、形容什么事物或者行动都是“私下里、暗地里、秘密”不公开的进行或者处理。

under the rose “暗中”、“私下里”、“秘密地”，在句子用作状语。

1）She cherished a deep resentment under the rose towards her employer. 她暗中对她的雇主怀恨在心。

2）Do what you like under the rose, but don’t give a sign of what you’re about. 暗中怎样干都行，只是不要露出一点形迹。

3）The details were given to me under the rose. 这些细节是有人私下告诉我的。

4）The senator told me under the rose that there is to be a chance in the cabinet. 这位参议员私下里告诉我说可能有机会进内阁。

4、现在不是时常说“抖个机灵”嘛，遇事灵活有度，非常机灵反应敏锐

（1）on the ball ,一个人很机灵，在工作方面做的非常出色，总是名列前茅。

一个人精明能干，工作出色，跟ball有什么关系呢?据说，on the ball这个俗语来自打篮球，有些著名篮球运动员有一种才能，那就是：在球场上不管球在谁手里，他们总能抓住机会把球抢到手，也就是on the ball。

If you were on the ball, this wouldn’t have happened.如果你当时能机灵点儿，这事儿就不会发生了。

（2）那机灵的反义词是什么呢？就是迟钝、反应缓慢的，英语：drop the ball，或者Slowpoke 这个俚语非常的话，用来形容行动很迟缓的人。

Can’t you just walk any faster? You slowpoke! 你就不能走快一点吗？你这个磨蹭鬼！

5、中文有个词“不幸中的万幸”，形容坏事当中也存在的好事

Silver lining，俚语表示的是“坏事中的好事、不幸之中的一线希望”的意思。

Even though you got fired from your company, the silver lining is that you will have more free time staying with your wife and your children. 虽然你被你公司解雇了，但往好的一方面想，这样你就可以有更多自由的时间陪陪你的老婆孩子了。

6、中文遇到事情老是抱怨，不继续振作着手处理，

Suck it up 俚语说的是：不要埋怨了，振作起来吧。

Can you please just suck it up and accept the fact that she is not in love with you anymore? 拜托你能不能振作起来接受她已经不爱你了的这个事实？

7、Throw that in someone’s face直译的意思：当着某人的面甩脸色。

真实意思是：当面给别人难看，不给别人好脸色。这个俚语说的“当面不给某人好脸子看”，和中文真的是相得益彰啊。

Come on, I just got home late. I promise you I will be home early next time. Don’t throw that in my face! 我不就回家晚了点嘛，我保证下次回家一定早点不就行了吗？你板着个臭脸给谁看呢？

8、中文有“以牙还牙，以眼还眼的”表达。

Tit for tat这可是个地道俚语哦，意思是“以牙还牙”。同义词还有：eye for eye , teeth for teeth ,以眼还眼以牙还牙。（果然文化都是相通的）

Mary asked Lily to apologize to her in public and said it’s tit for tat. 玛丽让莉莉当着众人的面向她道歉，还说这是以牙还牙。

9、中文表述什么事物还没有得到解决，事情还是很悬

Up in the air“悬在空中”，意思很明显了，说的就是“某事还悬而未决”的意思。

My plan to go to New York city is still up in the air because I haven’t obtained my boss’s approval yet. 由于还没有得到老板的批准，我准备去纽约的计划也处在待定状态。
